| KATE O'BRIEN: Violin, Viola, All Levels. Having been a professional violinist and violin/viola teacher for many years, I know how important it can be to supplement a student's school instruction with one-on-one coaching. Many talented pupils move ahead rapidly given this opportunity, and many of my students play with one of our local youth orchestras, keeping up their interest and commitment all the way through high school and beyond. My teaching style is a combination of traditional methods, some of the better parts of Suzuki training, my own concepts about ear training and musicianship, the importance of joy and enthusiasm in playing, and encouragement to play with other musicians (my students all play in ensembles that I put together several times a year). I welcome the study of all styles of popular as well as classical music. Experience: -private home studio: 25 years teaching experience with beginners, intermediate and advanced students, playing classical as well as folk, jazz, ethnic and improvisational styles. -Three years in the continuing Education Department at Sacred heart University. -Former Director and primary teacher of the New Haven Suzuki School (was in West Haven). What to ask your new teacher: *How long are your lessons? *How much do you charge? *Where is your teaching studio? *What times do you have available? *What should I bring to the first lesson? *What is your cancellation/missed lesson policy? |
